The Aqara Hub M3 is one of the best-value smart home hubs you can buy. For around $100 it is a Matter controller, a Thread border router and a Zigbee hub in one box, and it deliberately ships without a camera or microphone.
On privacy it is genuinely strong: no camera, no mic, local encrypted storage of device logs, and local control that keeps working during an internet outage. Those are values Nexop shares.
The difference is scope. The M3 is a device controller — it connects and automates hardware. Nexop is trying to be the part that decides what the automations should be.

Where the Aqara Hub M3 is the better choice
- At around $100 it is a fraction of what Nexop will cost, and it is shipping today.
- It is a Thread border router, Zigbee hub and Matter controller in one, with Ethernet/PoE — genuinely versatile connectivity.
- No camera or microphone and local encrypted storage make it one of the more privacy-respecting hubs available.
- It works with HomeKit, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant, so it slots into almost any existing setup.
- If you mainly need reliable, private, local device control on a budget, the M3 is very hard to beat.
Where Nexop aims to be the better choice
- The M3 connects and controls devices; Nexop watches how the household actually uses them and proposes automations. It is a different job, not a better version of the same one.
- Natural language is built in; the M3 has none.
- KNX is supported natively, which the M3 does not do.
- It is designed to remove the work of building automations, not just to run them.
The bottom line
If you want an inexpensive, private, local hub to connect Matter, Thread and Zigbee devices, the Aqara Hub M3 is excellent value and we would happily recommend it.
Nexop is not competing for that job. It is for people who already have the devices and the hub and still find their home is not actually intelligent.
