Where Homey Pro is the better choice
- It is shipping now, at a known price, with a mature app ecosystem behind it.
- Protocol coverage is broader: Z-Wave, Thread, infrared, and 433 MHz are all native, and Nexop will not have those at launch.
- Homey advertises support across more than 50,000 products from over 1,000 brands — a larger catalogue than we will start with.
- It is genuinely local-first with no subscription, so if that is your requirement, Homey already satisfies it.
- Advanced Flow is a legitimately good automation builder, and for someone who wants precise manual control it may be more satisfying than being offered suggestions.
- If your home runs on Z-Wave or infrared, this comparison is over and Homey wins it.
Where Nexop aims to be the better choice
- Homey asks you to build each automation. Nexop watches for a week and proposes them, which is the entire premise rather than a feature.
- Natural language is built in rather than delegated to Alexa, Google, or Siri — which matters if you would rather not add a cloud assistant to a local system.
- KNX is supported natively, which Homey does not do, and which matters for European and professionally wired homes.
- The target user is someone who does not want to learn an automation builder at all.
The bottom line
If you want the broadest protocol coverage from a local hub you can buy this afternoon, buy Homey Pro. That is a genuinely good decision and we are not going to talk you out of it.
Nexop is a different bet: that the bottleneck in smart homes is not what they can be made to do, but how much work it takes to make them do it. If that describes your experience, it is worth waiting for.
